The Pattern
The Flora Jacket and Vest is a boxy, slightly oversized quilted outerwear piece that will become a staple in your shoulder season wardrobe. With 3 pocket styles, 2 different lengths and two hem styles to choose from, the Flora has so many options!
Designed by Brightside Fabric Co, the Flora Jacket is suited for quilted or thicker fabrics. For this month's box we have gone for a pre-quilted fabric for a super quick and versatile project.
If you love your first Flora (and why wouldn't you) then you could have a go at quilting your own fabric- or even re-fashion a thrifted quilt!

The Fabric
Our autumn fabric is these beautiful pre-quilted cottons. This fabric takes does the hard work for you with perfectly straight quilted lines holding in a thin layer of wadding to give you jacket a little bit extra warmth.
Each fabric has different designs on each side so you can pick your favourite and even add some contrasting details to your jacket! Both of the ranges chosen have a beautiful floral on one side and a geometric print on the other.
When working with quilted fabric it is important to zig zag or overlock your edges at the start so the wadding doesn't fall out as you go. It may also be worth checking if your needle needs replaced before you start as a blunt needle may struggle with the extra layers.
Pattern Demo
Brightside Fabrics have very helpfully done a video demo of this pattern which I have included here. The pattern is the same for the woman and children's although there are some minor differences on the pattern pieces. For our baby pattern, there is a video from myself as there are some minor differences.
I have added a more detailed video of attaching the binding in the skills library below as this is probably the trickiest bit.
